Making the Best Wi-Fi Technology Even Better

Posted by Keith Sugawara on 2016-08-30 20:01:11

Today, most wireless modules are based on a radio vendor’s recommended reference design. However, the functionality and quality of the modules using a standard reference design is often limited. At Silex Technology, we understand that while typical consumer-oriented Wi-Fi technologies are driven by low-cost product development, short time-to-market, and rapid product improvements, this is not the case for mission-critical Wi-Fi applications. Silex Technology customers need Wi-Fi products that are designed for, and can function reliably, for long periods of time.

To ensure we bring the most reliable and durable Wi-Fi products to market, we invest heavily in making the best off-the-shelf chips available even better. With relentless attention to quality, exclusive access to Qualcomm Atheros silicon, and our expertise, Silex Technology is the trusted leader in reliable Wi-Fi connectivity.

Hosted or Hostless IoT Wi-Fi Devices? The Decision is Critical

Posted by Safi Khan on 2016-08-08 18:16:31

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a quickly growing market segment, and IoT applications often require smaller size, lower cost, andlower power consumption to address many small-but-constant battery operated applications such as home automation controls, sensors, and medical devices. As a result, these devices offer a unique variety of connectivity options beyond what were available to once-typical wireless devices. One of these options involves choosing to create either a hosted or a hostless IoT Wi-Fi device.

New Low-Cost Wi-Fi Module Now Available: Watch the Technical Overview Video

Posted by Safi Khan on 2016-07-08 06:18:42

We’ve recently released a low-cost Wi-Fi IoT Module, SX-ULPGN. The module is less than $10 MSRP and features a hostless mode for stand-alone IoT applications, which eliminates your MCU cost. This means that you can add Wi-Fi connectivity to your IoT solution and run it natively for just $10. The SX-ULPGN evaluation kit for this product is available through the Arrow Website for $49.

When you add Wi-Fi to an IoT application using SX-ULPGN, you can offload your network stack and network security is taken care of through the module. The module features 800KB on-chip RAM memory and 2MB of Flash, making it suitable for most IoT applications. The module also has a wide variety of peripherals that support these applications, such as analog-to-digital converters (ADC) for sensing, pulse-width-modulators (PWM) to drive LEDs or motors, and general-purpose-inputs-outputs (GPIOs) for interrupts or buttons, etc. The SX-ULPGN is an ultra-low power Wi-Fi module with internal 1.2 and 1.8 V regulators, making it suitable for battery-operated devices.

SX-ULPGN Hostless Wi-Fi Module Provides Low-Cost, Ultra Low-Power Embedded Wireless Capability for IoT Applications

Posted by Safi Khan on 2016-06-14 21:13:41

We’ve added a new Wi-Fi module to our growing portfolio of Internet of Things solutions. The new SX-ULPGN is a low-cost, ultra low-power Wi-Fi module designed specifically for use in high-volume embedded wireless products including smart home devices, systems used in factory automation, wearables, and medical devices.

The SX-ULPGN features a hostless mode that eliminates an external MCU to achieve the lowest system cost and ultra low-power. In hostless mode, the module’s internal CPU can act as a host with the application running from the internal memory. Peripherals and sensors connect to the CPU using any of the available interfaces, including UART, SPI, I2C, I2S, ADC, PWM, and GPIO. In addition, using our UART AT command option, you can quickly add a serial-to-Wi-Fi converter for existing MCU-based designs without porting any host driver.

Are you prepared for EN 300 328 v1.9.1?

Posted by Ron Tozaki on 2015-11-17 19:35:13

EN 300 328 covers wideband data systems operating in the 2.4GHz ISM band, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and ZigBee. This is the harmonized standard against which manufacturers must issue their Declaration of Conformity for the Radio and Telecommunications Terminal Equipment (R&TTE) Directive.

Since there were significant changes between ETSI’s V1.7.1 and V1.8.1, it’s natural that electronics manufacturers are wondering what changes are in store for V1.9.1. The latest update, EN 300 328 V1.9.1, is now published and available to download free of charge from the ETSI website.
